Bimzelx (bimekizumab-bkzx) is a humanized interleukin-17A and F antagonist used for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.
Recommended Dosage: The recommended dosage is 320 mg (given as 2 subcutaneous injections of 160 mg each) at Weeks 0, 4, 8, 12, and 16, then every eight weeks thereafter. For those weighing ≥ 120 kg, consider a dosage of 320 mg every 4 weeks after Week 16.
In case a dose is missed, administer the dose as promptly as possible. Thereafter, resume Bimzelx dosing at the regularly scheduled time.
- Bimzelx 160 mg/mL injection may increase the risk of infections. Avoid initiating treatment in all those with any clinically important active infection until the infection resolves or is adequately treated. Patients should seek medical advice in case signs or symptoms of clinically important infection occur. If a patient develops such an infection or is not responding to standard therapy, monitor them closely and discontinue treatment until the infection resolves.
- Evaluate patients for tuberculosis (TB) infection before initiating this treatment. Avoid the use of this medicine in those with active TB infection. Start treatment of latent TB before administering Bimzelx. Consider anti-TB therapy prior to initiation of treatment. Closely monitor patients for signs and symptoms of active TB throughout and after treatment.
- Treatment with Bimekizumab-bkzx is linked with increased incidence of liver enzyme elevations. Test liver enzymes, alkaline phosphatase, and bilirubin at baseline, periodically during treatment, and as per the routine patient management. If treatment-related increases in liver enzymes develop and drug-induced liver injury is suspected, interrupt therapy until a diagnosis of liver injury is excluded. Permanently stop therapy in patients with causally associated combined elevations of transaminases and bilirubin. Those with acute liver disease or cirrhosis may be at higher risk for serious hepatic injury; avoid the use of this medicine in these patients.
- Cases of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may develop in patients treated with IL-17 inhibitors, including Bimekizumab-bkzx 160 mg/mL. Avoid the use of this medicine in patients with active IBD. During treatment, monitor patients for signs and symptoms of IBD and stop treatment in case a new onset or worsening of signs and symptoms occurs.
- Before initiating therapy with Bimzelx injection, complete all age-appropriate vaccinations as per the current immunization guidelines. Do not use live vaccines in patients treated with this therapeutic drug. Limited data exist regarding the coadministration of this drug with non-live vaccines.
