Viltepso, an antisense oligonucleotide used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in patients who have a confirmed mutation of the DMD gene that is amenable to exon 53 skipping.
Recommended Dosage: The recommended dosage of Viltepso is 80 mg/kg administered once weekly as a 60 minute intravenous infusion.
If a Viltepso dose is missed, it should be administered as promptly as possible after the scheduled dose time.
- Measure serum cystatin C, urine dipstick, and urine protein-to-creatinine ratio before starting treatment with Viltolarsen.
- While on treatment with viltolarsen closely monitor those patients who are with known renal function impairment.
- During therapy with viltepso injection, monitor urine dipstick monthly, and serum cystatin C and urine protein-to-creatinine ratio every 3 months.
- Refer to a pediatric nephrologist in case a constant increase in serum cystatin C or proteinuria is noted.
- Measuring glomerular filtration rate needs to be considered prior to initiation of treatment.
- Due to the effect of reduced skeletal muscle mass on creatinine measurements, serum creatinine may not be a reliable measure of kidney function.
