Medical Uses

Rapiblyk (landiolol) is a beta-adrenergic blocker used for the short-term reduction of ventricular rate in adult patients with supraventricular tachycardia including atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.

Recommended Dosage: The recommended dose of Landiolol should be administered as a continuous intravenous infusion. Dosage can be titrated as required for heart rate control, with limited data beyond 24 hours. For normal cardiac function, start at 9 mcg/kg/min, increase by 9 mcg/kg/min every 10 minutes, up to a maximum of 36 mcg/kg/min. For impaired cardiac function, start at 1 mcg/kg/min, increase by 1 mcg/kg/min every 15 minutes, up to the same maximum dose. Note that 9 mcg/kg/min of landiolol equals 9.6 mcg/kg/min of landiolol hydrochloride.

Warning & Precautions

  • A drop in blood pressure may occur with the usage of Landiolol 280 mg injection. Patients should be under close observation for the development of hypotension and dizziness during the infusion. The infusion should be reduced or stopped if severe hypotension occurs during the procedure.
  • Decreased heart rate can occur in patients while using Landiolol. Patients should be under constant supervision and the heart rate maintained within safe limits. If there’s development of severe bradycardia or symptoms such as fatigue and discomfort in the chest area, reduce or stop the infusion.
  • While using this drug some patients may have a Congestive Heart Failure episode. Patients must be supervised for breathlessness and muscle pulsation. They should be encouraged to use caution while performing activity and If their heart muscle strength noticeably decreases, the medication should be withdrawn.
  • If a patient has a medical history of asthma or a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease then they would be advised against using this medicine as it leads to breathing difficulty and chest tightness along with major wheezing. The dose should be tapered to prevent infusion of past medications.
  • Some patients using Landiolol may show some signs of inflammation and tenderness on their skin such as redness or swelling while changing their media, which should be monitored during their supplemental dosage therapy. In cases where the signs are more severe, then they can merge the inhibition with an anti-inflammation therapy.
  • There is limited data on the use of Rapiblyk 280 mg injection during pregnancy. Administer only if the benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. Pregnant women should consult a healthcare provider before starting the treatment.
  • It is unclear if Landiolol passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding mothers should use this medicine cautiously. Discuss potential risks and benefits with a healthcare provider before using this drug during breastfeeding.
