Cystadane (betaine anhydrous for oral solution) is a methylating agent used in pediatric and adult patients for treating homocystinuria (a rare genetic disorder in which there is an abnormal build-up of the amino acid homocysteine in the blood and urine) to decrease elevated homocysteine blood concentrations. The following are considered to be homocystinuria disorders:

Recommended Dosage:
- Adults and Pediatric Patients Aged 3 Years and Older: The recommended dosage of Cystadane is 6 grams daily, administered orally in divided doses of 3 grams twice daily.
- Pediatric Patients Aged Less than 3 Years: The recommended starting dosage is 100 mg/kg/day divided into twice daily doses, and then increased weekly by 50 mg/kg increments.
- Cystadane 180 grams is used to treat homocystinuria, a condition that can cause serious health problems in case not managed properly. Ensure accurate diagnosis and follow the prescribed dosage regimen strictly.
- The medicine Cystadane may worsen high methionine blood levels and accumulation of excess fluid in the brain may occur. If you have been told you have CBS deficiency, your clinician will be monitoring your methionine blood levels to see if changes in your diet and dosage are necessary.
