Evusheld (tixagevimab co-packaged with cilgavimab), a SARS-CoV-2 spike protein-directed attachment inhibitor, used for the pre-exposure prophylaxis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults and pediatric individuals (aged 12 years and older weighing at least 40 kg), who are not currently infected with SARS-CoV-2 and who have not had a known recent exposure to an individual infected with SARSCoV-2 and
- Those who have moderate to serious immune compromise because of medical conditions or receipt of immunosuppressive medicines or treatments and may not mount an adequate immune response to COVID-19 vaccination or
- For whom vaccination with any available COVID-19 vaccine, according to the approved or authorized schedule, is not recommended because of a history of serious adverse reaction to a COVID-19 vaccine(s) and/or COVID-19 vaccine component(s).
Recommended Dosage:
Initial Dosing: The initial dosage of Evusheld in adults and pediatric individuals (aged 12 years and older weighing at least 40 kg) is 300 mg of tixagevimab and 300 mg of cilgavimab administered as two separate consecutive intramuscular (IM) injections.
Dosing for Individuals Who Initially Received 150 mg of Tixagevimab and 150 mg of Cilgavimab: Those who have already received the previously authorized initial dose (tixagevimab 150 mg and cilgavimab 150 mg) should receive an additional dose as promptly as possible, with the dose based on the following criteria:
- If the patient received their initial dose ≤ 3 months ago, the patient should receive a dose of 150 mg of tixagevimab and 150 mg of cilgavimab.
- If the patient received their initial dose > 3 months ago, the patient should receive a dose of tixagevimab 300 mg and cilgavimab 300 mg.
- Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, may occur with Evusheld. If signs and symptoms of a clinically significant hypersensitivity reaction or anaphylaxis occur while taking it, promptly stop administration and start appropriate medicines and/or supportive care. Clinically monitor individuals following injections and observe for at least 60 minutes.
- Evusheld contains polysorbate 80, which is found in some COVID-19 vaccines and is structurally identical to polyethylene glycol (PEG), an ingredient in other COVID-19 vaccines. For individuals with a history of a critical hypersensitivity reaction to a COVID-19 vaccine, consider consultation with an allergist-immunologist before administering it.
- Certain SARS-CoV-2 viral variants may not be neutralized by monoclonal antibodies such as tixagevimab and cilgavimab, the components in Evusheld. Evusheld may not be promising at preventing COVID-19 caused by these SARS-CoV-2 viral variants.
- As with any other intramuscular injection, Evusheld (tixagevimab/cilgavimab) should be given with caution to individuals with thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder.
